WNBL 2010-2011 – Round 18 – Sydney Vs Canberra

The Sydney Uni Flames have dug themselves a huge hole in their final game of the regular season. After losing heavily to the Townsville Fire at home on Tuesday, they now must defeat the Capitals to keep their slim post-season chances alive. Capitals centre Suzy Batkovic virtually admitted this week that her side had been focused on week one of the finals, and their impending showdown with the Bulleen Boomers for some time. Unfortunately the current WNBL Player of the Week will miss the game due to injury.

Knowing that Canberra need to win in order to have any hope of snatching the minor premiership and finals home court advantage, a Capitals win would usually be a heavily favoured result. But with the mid-week retirement announcements of two Sydney veterans and WNBL stars in Deanne Butler and former Opal and MVP Natalie Porter, the Flames may find a sentimental spark to see their veterans’ careers extended one more week.

Flames import Amy Denson has been in terrific scoring form of late, but can not afford to be the only Sydney player to reach double figures as was the case against the Fire.

Join Craig Revell and Jacob Black for all the action.
